I said before that we haven't gotten much done lately, even for custom work. Well, this one was a long time coming. When he went to the Furthur New Year's festivities in San Fracisco 2010/2011, our dear friend and Brother, Peacock, had an idea for a tophat he wanted to wear the following New Year. He brought the idea to us the following week, and it was so epic that it took us the rest of the year to meditate on it, design it, and bring it to fruition. Just in time to deliver it to him IN LINE for the Leftover Salmon/ Fruition show this New Year's. Without doubt, this is the most amazing thing I've made in years. I don't like tooting my own horn, so I'll just say I'm very happy with it and leave you with pictures....

It's been a heckuva winter. We haven't been keeping the website very updated, and for that we are sorry! Ian has been working his butt off at his day job and I've been recouperating from an ankle break the weekend after Thanksgiving. It's been all I could do to keep up with our sweet baby Jubilee and all of our various appointments. Hopefully we will get out of our winter hibernation/funk and get more work done soon. We are a bit behind on custom work, so I'm very sorry to all of you who have been so patient and wonderful and understanding to wait for your pieces while I recouperate.
As I'm able in the next few weeks, I will update this blog to post pictures of the custom pieces we completed earlier this season, along with the new ones as we finish them. Hopefully I'll also have a chance to shoot some pictures of the clothing we have left that's ready-to-sell and get that up here.
We are so lucky to have such a wonderful family of friends and customers, we love you all!
I'll close this post with a couple of pictures of a custom piece that I created a few months back. A baby quilt! This was ordered as a welcoming gift for a baby girl who was freshly arrived at her adoptive home. She is beautiful, and I hope the quilt does her justice! I sure had fun making it, and I'm happy with how it came out. I have to make more of these some time!

Generally, the biggest category of new clothing I have on my mind to design this year is also the smallest: baby clothes. Bigger kid clothes, too. But our sweetpea being the inspiration that she is, baby clothes will be the first out the gate.
I remember just after we found out I was pregnant last fall we only told a very few people aside from immediate family. One who found out right away - our good friend Peacock - immediately referred to my expanding middle as our "little patchwork baby" and I knew right away how our hummbleBee designs would be growing this year. We didn't know until she was born whether she'd be a girl or a boy. But talking to friends during my pregnancy, I was blown away by all the people who mentioned how well-dressed our kid was going to be, and how they couldn't wait to see the kid's clothes we'd be making.
.... Wait, we're making kid's clothes now?
Well, yeah, I guess we are. And how could we resist with such a cutie patootie to get dressed every day?
So far, the extent of our playing around has been a few baby girl dresses, and a couple of hats...
 |
Here is Jubilee wearing her first patchwork, at her first festival! She also has a little hat on - hard to see, but it's like a little bandana with a brim to shade her head and face. |
 |
Here she is wearing a later version. It has little poofy sleeves, a sash (with room to grow!) and a split back with bias tape edging and a plastic snap. |
 |
Second dress from the back. |
Now that I've got a taste for it I love making kiddy clothes and baby patchwork, and have lots of ideas to try out! I have some other ideas for little dresses, and I want to play around with them a little more. Of course, we don't want to leave little boys (or their families!) out of the fun, so next on our list to design is baby overalls!
We also have some great ideas for hats that we hope you'll see around here soon.
And if clothing isn't enough - we have some other great ideas for toys, diapers, and more! Have I mentioned that Jubilee is a source of never-ending inspiration? Now all we need is clones, so we can make all these things and still spend all the time with her that we want!
Is there any special, hip-baby clothing or gear you are hoping we'll come up with? Let us know! |

Wow, is our website looking sparse right now! I've just finished pulling the items from our online store that we sold over the summer, and adding those pictures to our online galleries. We have some new things made and ready to list for sale, but everything is slow going these days with our sweet little Jubilee to spend time with. Hopefully we'll be all caught up in the next couple of weeks.
Until then, I'll leave you with a picture of the new light in our life, and an invitation to browse the items we have left for sale.

Wow, what a year it has been in the hummbleBee hive! Our website is woefully out of date.
We have added a family member to our home! Our sweet daughter, Jubilee Sagan hummbleBee, was born May 22nd.

Now that we are settling in to life as a family of 3 (7, as Jerry reminds me with her nearby moaning!) the website is finally, at long last, back on our radar. Please bear with us over the coming weeks as we pull from our online store the items we sold over the summer, and finally begin to add some new. One thing to look forward to seeing is more baby and children's clothes and accessories. We will do our best to keep you posted! |
